What is the Coastal Tab?

The Coastal Tab is our biggest fundraiser for The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, here is a little bit about them:

The JTYAF supports young people from a wide range of youth organisations providing them with scholarships and bursaries to support their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions.

Recipients of the Charity’s Young Achievers Awards are selected for their demonstration of the Foundation’s key values: courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in adversity.

Since its formation in 2008 the JTYAF has made awards to almost 2000 young people which total over £700,000.

The JTYAF was founded by Peter and Linda Thornton  in memory of John Thornton who was tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2008 while serving as an officer in the Royal Marines.

We will be soaking up the mind blowing sights of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, following the rolling hills to finally meet up at the historic 13th Century chapel at St. Aldhelm's Head, here we shall march as a group to the Royal Marine Memorial and onto the finish line.

What do I have to do?

Get the training in now for the big day! either follow our training guide or get even more help from our online coaches! Here is how the day will plan out:

08:00 - 08:45

Meet at the Manor Farm Tea Rooms, 11 School Ln, Studland, Swanage BH19 3AJ - THIS IS JUST A DROP OFF AREA! - Please do try and car share as much as possible or even try and get a friend to drop you off and pick you up, the roads are not very big and we would like to reduce congestion as much as possible. Alternatively all day parking is available in many of the National Trust Pay and Display Car Parks

Once you arrive on site please register at the check in desk, collect your goodie bag and your pre-ordered breakfast.  Teas & coffees will be available from the tea rooms at their normal rate. PLEASE PRE-ORDER BREAKFAST AND OR LUNCH!

09:00 - 10:00

And were off!! After a fantastic 5 minute warm-up with the fabulous Julie House, we will be letting you loose on the hills.  Groups will leave at 5 minute intervals.

You will be assigned a number to allow us to keep track of you on the day.  We will refer to you by your number not name, it's a red tape thing .... Make sure that your friends and family have 'liked' the Facebook Group Page as regular updates will be given.  There are check points along the route where you will be able to refill your water bottle and stock up on jelly babies, at some you can even give your phone a cheeky charge! At each Check Point make sure you give your number so we can keep track of you and avoid having to kick-in the Emergency Plan which would be very embarrassing!!.

In order to help keep you safe in the event of an accident please download the app 'what3words' onto your phone, this will help us pin-point your exact location if necessary. We will give instructions of how to use it before you head off.

We aim to have everybody gathered together at the St Aldhelm's Chapel to start the final leg to the Royal Marines Commando Memorial.

A shuttle bus will be used to take you back to the start or our pick up point at Renscombe Car Park, Renscombe Road, Worth Matravers, Swanage, BH19 3LL

How do I get involved?

Getting involved couldn't be easier, complete the registration form below, order your breakfast and/or lunch, and get fundraising, we ask each person to do their best to raise £250 sponsorship, and/or by being creative, cake sales, bugging mum and dad, asking friends or even doing odd jobs for a few pennies, as long as its safe then do it!

We will have a single fundraising page for everybody to donate to, the link will be made available to you when you have registered for you to share far and wide, and encourage your friends to register too.

During registration we have a health questionnaire for you to complete, please do so honestly, if we have any questions we will get in touch, at worst we may ask for a doctors note to say that you are fit enough to complete the challenge.
